Where it's at! Creatively connecting course content and contemporary culture through music
Where it's at! What's better than "Two turntables and a microphone?" Try 2 YouTube video clips produced by you! Now that you, my esteemed Brandman U Cognitive Psychology, Spring 2 students have formulated groups, that consist of a techno expert; a photography/picture/painting/art expert; an organizer/notetaker; and a creative input agent, I will provide you with more information to complete your 2 productions by the deadline, Tuesday, April 12.
The first steps were completed in class on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. These steps involved formulating the groups, or creative teams, assigning names to your creative team, and brainstorming (involving cognitively priming one another through free association and unconditional positive regard), and planning the materials you will need to complete your project.
Now you will need to listen to each song, consider the subject matter associated with each, consider the lyrics and how you want to present them pictorially, and then begin to plan out the types of photos you want to take, the type of video the types of drawings or paintings you want to create (that you will then photograph).
Credits should include the group team as the video/pictorial music video producers, each person's name in the group with each person's role, and the names of the songwriter and "mixed by. (the man who mixes the tracks)" That would include myself as the singer/songwriter and, in the case of Over in Japan, Gary LaDuke, aka, GL as the mixer in the case of Over and Japan, and possibly a remix that's coming of Predictability, should he decide to take on that song as well in the mix.
Here are the links to the songs, along with the corresponding lyrics to each:
ON THE SUBJECT OF PREDICTABILITY AS A COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY PHENOMENON:
Predictability
Dr BLT
words and music by class instructor, Bruce L Thiessen, Ph.D., aka Dr BLT (c) 2011
Verse 1:
purple polka dots on daisies
tiger stripes on frogs
squirrels that chirp
and birds that croak
and cats that bark like dogs
everything is all mixed up
in this world where we live
what I wouldn't do to have it
what I wouldn't give
chorus:
the shirt right off my back
predictability
I'd give my good right arm
predictabiltiy
the world and all its charms
all the treasure you can see
I'd give them all away for some
predictability
Verse 2:
cars with sails and boats with wheels
and tricicyles with wings
birds are saying "moo!"
and cows are flying as they sing
roses smell like road kill
and skunks all smell so sweet
food is somethin' that we wear
and clothes were made to eat
(chorus)
vocal bridge:
everythin' is changin'
but one thing stays the same
your love is the constant
in my life of change
(short instrumental solo, repeat chorus)
ON THE SUBJECT OF COMPASSION FATIGUE AS A COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY PHENOMENON AND COMPASSION FATIGUE REDUCTION AS A COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY INTERVENTION:
Over in Japan
Dr BLT
words and music by instructor, Bruce L Thiessen, Ph.D., aka Dr BLT (c) 2011
Verse One:
children are missing
their mamas are crying
mamas and daddy's and children
are dyin'
chorus:
we've got to help them to find
some kind of way to survive
we've got to help them if we can
over in Japan
Verse two:
imagine you walk just a mile
in their sorrow
many a hope has been dimmed for tomorrow
(chorus)
vocal bridge:
I know you're thinkin'
what can I do
where do I start with such
destruction through and through
start with compassion
then come up with a plan
we've got to help them
over in Japan
(instrumental solo; repeat chorus)
Once the photos, movies, paintings/pictures are all put together along with the credits, you will post them to YouTube (instructions to follow), and I will create links so that fans can pick the best production in a topix.com poll.
