Brandman Students: Announcement concerning assignments for 09/28/10
Dear Students:
I've decided that I will not add to your already challenging set of academic tasks for this week by posting a blog assignment here. Your plates are already full with the reading and other blackboard-related assignments. So make sure you're up-to-date on everything required for week 4 on blackboard (except for the exercise involving providing feedback to fellow students on their in-class presentations), and you'll be good to go. Per some very helpful feedback I received from students, I have decided to drop the requirement involving offering a formal critique of the presentations of fellow students on their in-class presentations.
On Tuesday, September 28, we will be reviewing the mid-term, discussing IQ testing and discussing family assessment augmented by some original music. In addition, Dr. Kathleen Rigenbach will be visiting at 8 pm to take your questions regarding placements and related issues. Thanks, each of you, for your valuable contribution to the class. See you Tuesday!

Dear Dr. BLT,
I just sent you the following message by email. I'm posting it here in case you get here first.
"Regarding your Psychology Comes Alive blog post this week, see quote below, I have a few thoughts.....
"Your plates are already full with providing feedback to fellow students on their in-class oral presentations (power point, or otherwise) of 09/21/10; as well as with the reading and other blackboard-related assignments. So make sure you're up-to-date on everything required for week 4 on blackboard, and you'll be good to go.
I am not able to evaluate the other student's oral presentations because
1. I don't know their names
2. I can't recall which tests they were presenting
3. I wasn't aware we were expected to evaluate them. I don't recall that you asked us to.
4. Not everyone has done their presentations.
5. Several students, including me, had come prepared to present their testing instrument in a Power Point format, but were not able to because sufficient class time was not available, so you asked for a simple oral report instead.
I don't understand why you are requiring this of us.
If you provide the names of the students and the tests they presented I'll attempt this. But don't expect much.
I look forward to your response.

I didn't mean to require something of you that is not realistic. We'll just save the critiques for an in-class activity. Don't worry about that part.

Thanks, Dr. BLT.
I'd like to add this to my earlier post:
I think everyone did a great job on their presentations!
I hope everyone has a good weekend.

My pleasure. I want to thank you and Mark for bringing this matter to my attention. When students feel free to offer feedback, and openly communicate about their experience both in and outside of the classroom, it allows me to understand what students are experiencing (including what is beneficial and what is not, and what is simply frustrating vs. what is appropriately challenging), and I can tailor the class according to the needs that are expressed.

Today I figured out how to post my Power Pt Presentation, Yeah! but I don't know how to view it or view other classmates presentations from the Blackboard Site. Can anyone walk me through it?
BTW, I reported on SDS/Self Directed Search. I was very impressed with what I learned about it. It's a highly regarded instrument developed by John Holland Ph.D., a renown researcher and developer of vocational instruments. I found a site to access the test for only $4.95. I forwarded the link to my three children who are at vocational and educational crossroads in their lives.
