I am Schizophrenia: The skit and the song, and the fury

We're putting the myth that folks can't have fun and learn at the same time to rest, along with the myth that for medicine to be effective, it must taste bad. Tonight, we put the psycho in psychobilly and the schiz in skits. You'd never know that a group of graduate students would be so multi-talented, but such is the case.
More pictures will be added on another subsequent blog, for those of you who are left with picture-less memories of the session. It was held on September 23, 2009, at Bakersfield Recording Studio and Music School off of Golden State Highwy in Bakersfield, California.
Without further ado, here is I am Schizophrenia (Skit) and I am Schizophrenia (the song). After checking it out, if you are a student participant, share with other viewers your role in the skit, and or song, and talk about the highlights of the session in the comments section below. Great job students, and great job Hot Rod of Fatt Katt and the Vonzippers, our special guest for the evening.

I am Schizophrenia
(the Song)
The Axes Five
words and music by Dr BLT © 2009
credits:
lead vocals: Dr BLT
harmony vocal tracks: Sarah Elizabeth Villasenor, Amy Turner, and Mark McKinney
bass: Hot Rod of Fatt Katt and the Vonzippers
drums: Mark McKinney
rhythm guitar: Dr BLT
lead guitar: Dr BLT
additional rhythm track arranged by Dr BLT
The song is designed to function as a cognitive primer. More specifically, it is designed to disseminate educational information, and to shed insight on the phenomenon of schizophrenia, from the perspective of phenomenology and clinical assessment. A big thanks to all who joined in the skit and/or the song. Whether you were Nicholas Torrez, the big headlining star of the skit, a skillful member of the Axes Five, or any actor or actress with a seemingly small part in the skit, none of your efforts will be taken for granted. You all helped to bring psychology to life through music and drama, and through the creative process. Give yourselves a round of applause! You rock!
* Funding was made possible through Dr BLT's shrinking income, and through the generous donations of students. We could have put a little more money into the editing of the skit, but that would have depleted the shrinking fund of the instructor and would have forced students to take out additional student loans.
* To find out about an exciting new community psychology intervention project involving multiple local bands, and multiple local artists
all united to record Christmas music to benefit the homeless, visit:

Gabriel, I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of moving your comment, because it seemed to be addressing the content of another blog posted below. I also responded to your comment there. If you scroll down to the blog about mentoring, movies etc., the one featuring the photo of my daughter, you'll find your original comment, and my reply.

I played the role of Kilroy in our Schizo skit. This whole experience was great. I loved the interaction and the ability to learn by play. Needless to say, the experience to actually record a skit as a published(even if its only on psychologycomestolive.com as Dr. BLT mentioned) actor or singer was exiting. Due to the repetition of either the skit or song, one couldn't help but to learn that schizophrenia with or without pills is a terrible thing to have, in addition, to getting an insight of what it may be like in the mind of a person suffering with such a disorder (yikes!). Very insightful session Dr. BLT. I had lots of fun!
