Predictability (PT/SU)

It is said that a picture paints a thousand words, and clearly, the arts have none of the restrictions inherent in the scientific method of observation and communication. According to your own understanding, discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages to describing somebody's personality, for example, from a scientific point of view. Then discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of portraying a certain individual's personality by relying only on artistic medium and artistic language.
Then listen to this song, and answer these question:

How does this song describe life without predictability? What is the overall underlying message behind the song?

Dr. BLT I enjoyed every word in your song predictability. What I understood from listening to the song was that The world we live in is a world of major Chaos, confusion constant change and unpredictability and that with love being the main concept of the human race it could help the world we live in. Like the beatles once said 'ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" The song mentions that all the treasures in the world are not as valuable as predictability and stability.

The song is basically about life in general nothing really is black and white. Life isn't predictable, people and things are always changing. I think it's so true "everything in this whole world is mixed up." For example: people now a days have kids first and then get married later. We (Americans) like predictability and we get insecure if we don't know whats to come. For example: we hope and pray for our soldiers but we can't predict what will happen. I can't speak for anyone else but Jesus is my constant in my life of change.
God Bless

Some of the advantages to describing an individual's personality through a scientific point of view is that one can rely on certain identified traits that researchers and famous psychologists have come up with to explain reasons for a person's behaviors. For example an individual's personality may be of that of an introvert or extrovert. These traits are important to professionals who study many types of personalities such as crime examiners and profilers. To these professionals, being able to describe, predict and identify individuals based on their personality is made easier when using scientific point of view to analyze their data. Disadvantages would be that one can never really predict an individual's personality due to everyone having free will, having different life experiences, being inspired by different "motivators" to do things in life which in turn are make up our own unique personality.
When portraying an individual's personality by relying only on artistic medium or through artistic language, an advantage would be that one can really appreciate the person's talents and we too can identify with their deep emotions which are expressed in the individual's artistic work. We are able to appreciate the artist because we might not be able to vocalize as easy as these individuals can. One can identify with them and see a different point of view to situations in life by using their work and applying it to our everyday stressors. The disadvantages to seeing these individuals in this type of light could be that these individuals can be easily misunderstood depending on their artistic work. Others might only see their artistic talents as what they really are or what they really believe in. Artists such as singers or rappers have lots of power over their fans and these fans could attempt to emulate what the artist is trying to tell their audience within the lyrics.
I think that this song makes a good point to mentioning bizarre and chaotic points of view to an alternate world if we lived without predictability. I believe that the overall message is that the artist is longing for a more stable or predictable world or at least stability in his life.

The first thing that comes to mind when considering someone’s personality is the phrase “never judge a book by its cover” or better yet, a Forrest Gump spin on it; “people are like a box of chocolates...” When you consider the complexities of the human mind, which is the control panel for an individual’s personality, one must realize that there is no cookie cutter way of describing it. A human being’s personality characteristics cannot be scrutinized in only black and white but must be explored thoroughly through the gray areas. For example if you were to evaluate everyone’s personality from a questionnaire that had the same questions for everyone without semantics involving that individual then I believe the results would not be completely accurate due to the unique qualities each human being possesses. This leads me to assume that scrutinizing ones art may be a better approach to assessing the intricacies of an individual’s personality. I believe it is for this reason that psychologists/psychiatrists ask people to draw depictions of their families and themselves and to describe how other pictures make them feel. Through the person’s creativity, the scrutinizer can gain a better understanding of that person’s personality.
In Dr. BLT’s song “Predictabillity” he describes a world right out of a psychotic episode or a bad acid trip in which up is down and night is day and the world is in utter chaos. Then in the chorus he sings of wanting predictability and emphasizes its importance in his life. Like all things there is more than one way to look at predictability. Some, like myself may find predictability to become somewhat monotonous, and yet at the same time enjoy the comfortable organization of redundancy. Always knowing where your wallet and car keys are at all times is a good feeling, but knowing how every episode of “Walker Texas Ranger” is going to play out before it is even started and still watching it every night seems mind numbing to the point of madness. So I guess I can see both the pros and cons in predictability as well as spontaneity. Personally I consider variety the spice of life, especially in my musical taste, and that is probably why I like artists like the Beatles and Frank Zappa so much, but in defense of predictability it is nice to have order in this crazy world.
If you are into unpredictability or just want to get weird, check out the disturbing, unpredictable and, at times, downright shocking songs of my pseudo band ,Impulse Control, at http://www.myspace.com/impulsecontrol . Warning: Some strong language and graphic descriptions. Definitely not for all audiences.

I very much enjoyed this song. Good beat, it was catchy. This song describes life without predictability as something unwanted. We as humans need some form of predictability because it provides stability, which in turn gives us security. We all need to feel some sense of security, and have a fear of the unknown. The inability to know what will happen next because things are constantly changing is stressful, and security provides peace of mind.
Some of the disadvantages that we are faced with when, for example, describing someone's personality traits by using the scientific method is that it is limited. There are strict guidelines when using the scientific method and cut and dry facts are used to describe the traits based on pure observation. While it does provide solid facts, it leaves us without a vivid description. By using an artistic medium, you can see a clearer picture, in some cases, even feel it because you are not limited, and are given the ability to use your senses such as touching, and hearing, while receiving the information. However this method can risk not being taken seriously as a scientific research.

Personalities contains diverse features that have been described and others that are still unknown. People use their senses to understand the environment; furthermore, personality. The two fascinating fields that can be used to describe personalties are both scientific and artistic. Both have their disadvantages and advantages.
Rules pose both as a advantage and a disadvantage to the scientific method. For one, rules helps the method to be organized, concise, and eliminates some of the errors. In contrast, rules ceases some creativity, and makes matters lengthy. So, rules create a lack of creativity in most cases, but helps projects to be more to the point.
Along with rules, scientific procedures tend to be more accepted due to its ability of being repeated. Findings on personality asked to be recorded in some fashion, so others can see and perform their own studies. In addition, I feel that if things in a personality study does not make sense, people can get assurance by performing the study again. In conclusion, scientific method has its advantages in that the process can be repeated.
Looking at an art perspective to personality, one can receive many interpretations to one picture. This can pose as an advantage or a disadvantage as people can create many ideas to one picture. This can pose as the basis to ongoing research. On the other hand, there probably will be too many great ideas to single out one as an artistic perspective has no real boundaries. Furthermore, pictures contain many hidden message or the viewer creates messages that the creator did not attempt to express.
The two methods can be seen in mainstream society. Science has most of the time shown correctness to personality because of its necessity for organization and specificity. On the other hand, without an artistic median, some of the ideas would not be tested because of the lose of the exploration outside the societal boundaries. Looking at both the advantages and disadvantages, I express both are needed: art as a basis to personality; and science to go in depth, with control.

This song seems to be about a man whose world has been turned upside down by some sort of trauma. The sights and sounds around him have been scrambled in his head because it's like the floor has been pulled out from under him and he doesn't know which way is up. He says he wants predictability, probably because he has been let down by something that he thought he could count on.
This song describes life without predictability as being frightening because you never really know what is going to happen next, even if you think that you do. The person singing the song just wants things to be the way he thought they were, and nothing seems right to him now. I can relate because I have been through things that have made the world seem unpredictable and crazy. I really liked the song.

What is life without predictability? We can all safely assume that we will go through our day, go home, see our loved ones, and continue with our monotonous lifestyles. But can we? The song Predict By Dr. BLT goes through a series of predictable visuals such as birds chirping and not croaking, skunks smelling so sweet and roses smelling like road kill. We can assume all those things cows not flying and birds do not croak. However, LIFE itself can not be foreseen. We can all have a plan, but how many of us can really say that it has gone “according to plan”? We all anticipate in graduating but how many of us do? Life is as unpredictable as the weather; for the most part is accurate but not exact. The underlying message behind this song is take life for what it is as unpredictable as it can be just live it and love it! It is something as the saying goes, “roll with the punches”. You live life, you make mistakes, you fall down, and you keep on going.

Hi Mr. Blt! Just listened to your song. I believe your song is describing predictability as something that can never really be certain. I feel the song is pointing out how often we take things for granted because there is not much change. Your song gives us the idea to think of how complicated things would be if we were not able to predict the outcome. What if we ate clothes and wore food, how crazy would that be?

some of the advantages and disadvantages to describing sombodys personality is many. When you are describing someomes personality there are many ways that you can offend someone. you may say that their personality is a certain way, and they may not see that in them selfs at all. They may portray themselves as something completly different and even opposite than what you describe or lable them as. ON the other hand it may be used as a way to boost someones self esteem, you may only focus on the good of that person and not mention any of the opposing point of views.
Another thing is every one holds a bias and that may play against or for someone. You may never be giving a true description of that persons true personality

“Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to.”
Alfred A. Montapert q
How does this song describe life without predictability? This song describes beautiful colors, and creatures mixed up in this world. This song is about an individual who sees the magnificent world of treasures. He is someone who has been lacking social acceptance with lacking the ability to predict what people want or need from him. He is going through a fast constant changing world. This individual has insight to the beauty of nature, “Things that you can see”,but he is being mixed up with the changing social norms. He would give up his “good right arm” to better understand what emotionally is occurring in his lifetime.

Predicability......When evaluating someone based on their personallity it is good to have a general norm inwhich to make an inteligent evaluation... However this assessment is tainted by ones own interpatation of what is normal. The song perdicability is very interesting and a good listen.... What life teaches is,the only constant is change it self.
If one is able to experiance Love perhaps that is the only constant that will keep true throughout life changes... However, that Love would have to grow and change to remain the same....Love like any thing of value takes work....and for it to remain a source from which someone can nourish it takes sacrifice, forgivness, long suffering, and understanding...so we are left with the adtage...."Lord give me the courage to change the things that I can the exceptance of those things that I can not change and the wisdom to know the differnce.....Life is full of change it is how we adjust to that change and what support systems we have that often will determain how well we transition from one change to another.

some of the advantages and disadvantages to describing somebody's personality, for example, lets take for instance when trying to discussing someone's personality one may assume possitive or negative characteristics about their personality however when comparing it to a scientific method if a person literally followed the scientfic method and followed step by step on their personality the person would seem to be such a bore. However when you don't use a scientific method your able to explain in so many different ways, and your able to paint a broader picture of one and their personality. You don't have to stick to guide lines when doing so and your able to use terms that many others are familiar with.
When discussing some of the advantages and disadvantages of portraying a certain individual's personality by relying only on artistic medium and artistic language theres a difference. When being artistic you can be expressive, your able to show someone who the person really is, and what makes them who they are. The artristic level gives one to be yourself and show the world what your wanting them to precieve.

The advantages in describing someone's personality from a scientific point of view is that it would be a more ideal and accurate statement as if we were describing their artistic medium. A person's personality may be; happy, creative, easy-going, friendly, attentive, respectful, or hardworking. Or all of these, however the disadvantages of stating these personality traits is that it doesn't state any of their core values. Such as they are educated and value family. Or they like materialistic things in life. Just things about him/her that are important to that person. IT doesn't give a full description of him/her. The other question is what are the advantages/disadvantages of relying on an artistic medium. This would be great of the people involved would be artistic their lingo would be ideal. However, if this person is not creative they would not be able to relate and would not be able to comprehend. An artistic medium is describing anther person artistically such as they are a good singer, producer, flower arranger, painter etc. This does not fully describe their personality.

There are definitely pro's and cons for describing a person's personality from a scientific standpoint. One main con in my opinion is that scientifically explaining someone's personality is that one will in one way be dehumanizing the patient. The patient is no longer a person, but a victim of the personality. A positive look to doing this is that the explanation would be universal. Psychologists all over the United States would understand the person's personality because of universal words.
The song pretty much explains life as chaotic without predictability. It seems as if life was fully predictable it wouldn't be fun and enjoyable, however some sort of predictability and reliability is necessary.

So, the only thing that is a constant in our lives is change -- the only thing we can depend on is unpredictability! Not an easy pill to swallow for someone like me who struggles with change. I've gotten much more at ease with unpredictability over the years but I can really relate to the lyrics.

Scientific language tends to be a little complex for the average person. Personally, when reading something that is not plain and apparent to my understanding I tend to become uninterested or frustrated with what the author is trying to convey. Using scientific descriptions could be beneficial when describing the complexity of a person's personality.
I prefer an artistic approach to describing a person's personality. The problem with this approach is that a reader is able to utilize their imagination and visual skills to interpret what the author may be trying to say. In doing so the reader may not be interpreting the information accurately.
I was really entertained by the song Predictability. I was able to explore my imagination skills to visual the various animations presented by the author i.e. (tiger strips on frogs/purple polka dots on daisy's). I was able to get a clear picture of what the author was trying to say however this was still my interpretation of the information. I'm sure many of my classmates may have different interpretations of the same song.
Logically speaking, some individuals possess a more scientific approach of understanding and others are more artistic. On a side note I'd like to say that unpredictability adds the spice to life but it can be complete chaos at the same time.

Discussing someone’s personality from a scientific point of view can be tricky, helpful, and dangerous. I think it might be impossible to measure someone’s personality as there is no way to know every trait or reaction a person could have, the best answer you can generate would have to be based on personality patterns. Behaviors that are repeated may provide a glimpse into why a person behaves in a particular way. However, making assumptions or diagnosis about someone’s personality is almost like pigeon-holing them. Once you’ve labeled someone they can go one of two ways: they can take the information that comes with it and make efforts to change or redirect themselves (if need be), or they can let it be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I guess it is this part that is unpredictable. There may be no way to determine which path a person would choose once their personality received a “label.” I believe the song describes predictability as something we want. We thrive on predictability. Our daily lives and survival have been based on ways to promote predictability. We create schedules, plan our future; both near and far. There are people whose career is to use mathematics and science to measure predictability in all areas of business, life, and science. When things happen that we can’t predict it is a shock to our system. It takes us time to cope and some of the first things we do to cope is start planning something in order to feel a sense of control.
